Hello, I’m Sarah Elizabeth Best, a UK-based surface pattern designer creating joyful, retro-inspired fabrics for sewists who love bold, expressive prints.
Although I studied Interior Textiles at university, specialising in handmade rugs from recycled materials, my career took me in a different direction and I spent the next twenty years working in the corporate world. Creativity never really left though. I was always making something, and over the past decade I’ve sewn much of my own wardrobe, developing a deep appreciation for distinctive fabrics and statement prints.
In September 2023, while on holiday, I had a simple but life-changing thought:
what if I designed my own fabrics and made clothes from them?

That moment sent me down a wonderfully obsessive path of learning surface pattern design from scratch, experimenting with colour and developing my own visual style alongside my day job.
Today my work celebrates joy, individuality and the expressive possibilities of print. Inspired by movement, colour and the small moments of everyday happiness, I design characterful fabrics that bring personality and energy to handmade garments. Many of my prints feature stylised swimmers, dancers and playful figures celebrating the joy of movement.
My fabrics are created for sewists who love statement prints and enjoy making clothes that feel joyful, distinctive and a little unexpected.
